We had been keeping a close eye on the weather in Melbourne the week leading up to the regatta. Maximum temperatures of 13 degrees and windy conditions didn't look promising. We were told by the coach to stock up on thermals and prepare for frigid weather. Lo and behold, everyone couldn't believe how lucky we were with the weather. We had sunny 't-shirts and shorts' weather with little to no wind. Couldn't have asked for anything more from the weather Gods!
Although the regatta kicked off with a slow start on the first day of club competition, DSA performed brilliantly over the 4 days of 10's racing with our Masters Mixed, Masters Opens, Prems Mixed and Prems Womens teams racing consistently well to dodge the repercharge races and make it straight through from first round heats to the semi finals. From there, they raced straight through to the grand finals. Not an easy feat when you're up against the best clubs from all around the country, but we held our ground and put up a good fight in every race. Overall, our little club managed to come home with 4 trophies with matching medals for the crews who earnt them. A remarkable achievement for such a small club. Our coach couldn't be happier. As an extra bonus, both our Premier Mixed and Women, and Masters Mixed and Open crews have subsequently qualified to race in the 10's division of the Club Crew World Championships in Hong Kong this July. A very exciting achievement for the club.

For the DSA paddlers who were competing in a National regatta for the first time, no doubt it would have been an eye-opening and exhilarating experience. Although many of them were not fortunate enough to be able to take a medal home with them, I am certain it has inspired them to reach for gold at next year's nationals, which will be held on home ground in Penrith. It was fantastic to see many of our newer paddlers transformed from being unsure of their abilities and surprising themselves at the close of the event with what they have achieved. That 2km race doesn't seem to daunting after all 'ey? In fact, I seem to recall a few of them saying they loved it so much that the 2km race is now their favourite race. Who would have thought! Overall, congratulations to all who competed! I know that every single one of you put everything into it and the results speak for themselves. Let's carry this through to the World Championships!

After weeks of heavy rain, the skies finally opened to allow a fantastic day at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith and what a day of racing it was!
It was the last regatta of the NSW racing season and we were pumped to really make our mark. We all knew it wasn't going to be easy. It's the pointy end of the season when all the other clubs would have trained to their peak just like we have. Short of the National Championships, this would be the regatta they would have been training so hard for.
In saying that, DSA put up a good fight and gave the other teams a run for their money. Especially the DSA girls! No way were we just going to hand them the race on a silver platter! Our races were solid, strong and controlled all the way down the 500m race course. We were no pushovers - nuh uh!
For the first time in DSA history, we had 2 mixed teams qualify for a final and race alongside each other. Great effor team!!!
And this is what we have to show for it (Oohhh YEAH!)
