14th January 2018
A very early and chilly Sunday morning but very happy that the Championships did not occur one week before where Penrith recorded 47 degrees. The team included 48 paddlers ready to fight hard to compete with some strong opposition.
We also had 4 super motivated paddlers that were racing for the first time, Ed, Giselle, Irma and Toni. I loved their enthusiasm.
As usual, Ash lead the warm up.
Our DSA Captain Brett gave us a motivational speech to make sure we stayed 100% focused to the race and be on time for marshalling.
I was part of the Senior A team. This team was very successful in both heats. Having won our 2 heats, we easily qualified for the final. Big surprise of the day was that FFB failed to qualify to the final. They have competed very well this season.
Strong competition in the Final with Different Stroke on fire and winning by less than half a second!
So another Silver medal for our team.
We then followed the Premier Mixed team who were competing with super strong teams like ACCA, CYL, Sloths, PD, …. Strong effort from all of them but not enough to reach the Finals.
Then first presentation of the day. Always a good feeling to get a trophy and medals. There were also a handful of other awards presented to clubs by DBNSW and we were extremely surprised and proud to hear that DSA won the Club of the Year trophy!
Afternoon races consisted of Open and Women teams.
The Open team did very well in the 2 heats finishing second in both of them, enough to go to Finals where the opposition was super strong.
I was racing with the Women as well. It was good to have a full boat. While we did not achieve a good place, everyone tries their hardest.
