Garigal National Park, Roseville. NSW
Results DSA Women: Gold (A Final) What a fantastic venue Roseville is; beautiful, serene, and a great picnic area for the family….and then all the Dragon Boaters arrive setting up tents settling in and there goes the serenity and on comes the rivalry, shouting, fun and games. A quick early morning jog and warm up started off a fantastic day of racing (Thank goodness there wasn’t a hill to run up this time). The races started with the mixed blue team motoring along like troopers after a bit of a scary beginning. Mixed Yellow had a great start but couldn’t help looking to the boat on the left on the way past…who were they? As the day progressed the masters girls realised they were going to have to do some back to back racing.…. what’s that about and who organised it? J Oh well no pain no gain, break out the V and power on. The Mixed Masters (no we’re not in cooking class) powered along in their first heat for a win. Masters girls got straight out of the boat to paddle with the girls crew for another quick trip down the course, a very close race against Sloths and PD’s. Opens crew were up next, all you could here was the power of the paddles in the water and George’s war cry “leg drive” resounding down the valley. What a great race they had challenging Sloths, both crews at least a half boat in front of the other teams – well done opens crew. The sweeps did a great job on a very challenging course. It felt like the boats were going through a funnel to the finish line where every boat was vying for the best position. After the 2nd round of heats the Mixed Yellow, Masters, Chicks, and Opens crews had made it through to be in the finals, top effort. Unfortunately the Blue Team didn’t quite make it after a valiant effort in their final heat. Masters were up first and came through for bronze, followed by the girls who blitzed their way home by 0.03 of a second to win the ultimate bling….GOLD, GOLD, GOLD. The Mixed Yellow Team powered through a smashing race into second place & our Open crew just missing out on some bling with a very close 5th, better luck next time. What a fantastic day of fun spent with a great team of people with trophies to top it off.
