Garigal National Park, Roseville. NSW
Roseville, for those who have not had the privilege of visiting or racing there, is a beautiful site. Paired with the seamlessly endless blue sky above, the day unfolded to be a stunner. What more could you want then to spend it with 40 [give or take a few] of your closest friends in a cosy little white boat….. Not only was this event the first points race of the season, more importantly, it was the inaugural unveiling of the new look for Team DSA. We are the first team to have an easy access zip on our rashies, along with the optional DSA paddle pants, the slippery little suckers! Many thanks to those who took the time to organise them, and from the numerous positive comments we have had, and are still getting, a job well done. We are the envy of every club, so hold onto your rashies, they may go missing, wear them with pride! On this fine day DSA entered a women’s crew and two mixed crews. Right about now I’d like to thank and congratulate the virgin racers/paddlers, welcome to racing. Without you, we would not have been able to have such a successful day of racing. Fearlessly popping the race cherry in the 1st race of the day hopefully didn’t scare you off, but gave you a new thirst for the adrenalin of racing… it’s addictive! After ironing out the first race jitters, Team DSA were ready to “Rip It”. As the day went on, so did the racing. With a strong tail wind, the fastest times of the day were recorded in round 2, with the Mixed A team clocking in at a scorching 1:46:04. With two 1st place finishes in as many starts, the Mixed A qualified for the A final. As per the women’s heats were…. hot, and the racing was pretty competitive too! With two 2nd places in the heats, the girls also qualified for the A final. Considering attendance at training, virgin paddlers, and paddler availability to race, the impressive results reflected the heart and the fighting spirit that is the core of Team DSA, as well as the potential for the remainder of the season. After a long day of racing, the Crowe residence was again open for business. Home owners, Jim and Margaret were not present, which left the talented Miss Crowe in charge. Thank you to all the Crowe’s for letting us refresh and re-fuel at their abode. Thanks also to Mouse, the BBQ King, for doing what he does with the tongs, a fire and a bit of meat. Steak….. mmmmm…. And thus ends another successful Sunday of racing.
