Patrick Trinh was a young DSA paddler who died suddenly from a brain tumor during 1989/1990 season. He'd been a normal, healthy guy with no outward signs of any illness. Patrick devoted a large amount of his time to both paddling and the club due to his love for the sport. His family wanted to keep his memory alive by creating this award. Brad Khu, a good friend of Patrick, recently contributed a few extra words, thanks mate.
"It's great to see Patrick's Perpetual Memorial Award still running. Having trained with Patrick at the UNSW Judo Club from 1986 (he actually started at Sydney Uni), as you expect, club members form a very close bond. These close bonds convinced the UNSW Judo club contributing a full DSA team in 1986-87 season. As training in both disciplines took it's toll, Patrick, Dianne, and myself were the only UNSW club members to continue paddling. A quiet achiever, Patrick although never the rowdiest, was always where the action was, and was quick to lend a hand, pull a prank and joke around.
Great to see the club keeping the memory of Patrick alive".
This award is the memorial Club Person Award, recognising those members who go above and beyond for the club out of love for the sport & DSA.
