Dobroyd was my first experience of competitive racing, and I participated in the prems mixed and open categories.
The races were well organized and while all the teams were there to compete, there was a lot of camaraderie as well, so it was a good experience which I would recommend to everyone who has not raced yet.
What I learnt from the races:
Conditions can be quite different from training. One side of the river was quite shallow, making it harder to paddle there.
Even small distances can add up, especially when there are multiple heats, and it can be tiring if you are always paddling on the same side.
In windy conditions, the starting call can be quite sudden so you have to be prepared.
You need to bring plenty of food to last through the day, bananas are a good choice.
